Cultural Currency is a graphic design–driven exhibition that examines how popular culture has shaped the perceived and monetary value of Air Jordan sneakers from the 1990s to the present. The visual language of the exhibition treats each decade as its own economic and cultural ecosystem, revealing how shifts in music, sports, media, and streetwear directly influenced pricing, demand, and symbolic status.
The exhibition is structured through a series of large-format design panels, each dedicated to a specific decade—the 90s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. Every panel is composed as a dense collage, layering archival imagery, typography, advertisements, and cultural references that defined the era.At the center of each panel are the four most popular Air Jordan models of that decade. These sneakers are visually isolated yet integrated into the collage. The exhibition invites viewers to consider how value is constructed—not just in dollars, but through cultural relevance, storytelling, and time.
